Sports Therapy NOS
The pre-requisite’s for Sports Therapy are;
Anatomy (what it is) & Physiology (Where it is and what it does)
Body, Holistic or Remedial Massage Therapy
First Aid
Sports Massage and or advance Remedial Massage
Electrical and Mechanical machinery i.e.: - Gyrators, Precursors, Ultra sound etc. (this is normally included in the sports therapy training but can be added on as a pathway for sports and remedial massage therapist looking to progress as sports therapists).
Sports Nutritional Advice - can be included in the sports therapy training but not often found there.
This would be a normal pathway to train as a qualified Sports Therapist. There are many sports and remedial massage therapists working and calling themselves sports therapists, when in fact they are only qualified as sports or remedial massage therapists and have dropped the massage bit from their title. Whilst there is no law against this it does cloudy the waters somewhat and is something that we on the council and as PSB’s are trying to rectify.
We are working hard to raise the standards and as such at the begining of last year we put forward to the CNHC and Skills Active to implement the addition of the Core Curriculum to be entrenched within the Sports Therapy NOS’s.
